first chemist to exhibit at london's royal academy of arts
Released: 22 July 2009
The world’s first exhibit by a chemist at the Royal Academy of Arts since 1857 has gone on display in the courtyard of Burlington House this week.
Well-known chemical ecologist Graeme Jones, who has a national reputation for creation of giant chemical models, was set the challenge by the Royal Society of Chemistry to create the new external exhibits.
The challenging nature of the ‘Carbon Rapture’ project led Graeme to get in touch with Complete Fabrication to assist him. As graphite was the only form of carbon Graeme could have in large quantity the supporting structures had to be strong enough to support them and be safe for public display.
Graeme says we did ‘a superb job’ (see www.makeitmolecular.com). From creation to installation the CF team worked tirelessly to make and deliver the structures and with their convenient London location they were able to keep their carbon footprint to a minimum too.
